Start by selecting buyer-paid shipping or free shipping. Enter your item selling price, quantity, and product cost. Next, add the amount you pay for postage and packaging.

If you currently charge customers for shipping, enter that amount in the shipping charged field. The calculator uses this value to compare your current shipping approach against a free-shipping offer.

Enter your Etsy fees and choose whether an Offsite Ads fee applies. Click Calculate Profit to see your estimated earnings, margin, total costs, and shipping comparison.

How Is Etsy Shipping Profit Calculated?

Net Profit = Seller Revenue − Product Costs − Shipping Costs − Packaging − Etsy Fees − Other Expenses

Seller revenue includes the amount customers pay for your products and shipping. Sales tax collected by Etsy is excluded from seller revenue in this model.

Etsy Transaction Fee Formula

Transaction Fee = (Item Revenue + Shipping Revenue) × Transaction Fee Rate

For US sellers, Etsy’s standard transaction fee is 6.5%. It generally applies to the item price and the shipping amount charged to the buyer.

Etsy Payment Processing Fee

Processing Fee = (Item Revenue + Shipping Revenue + Sales Tax) × Processing Rate + Fixed Fee

The default US processing rate is 3% plus $0.25 per order. Processing rates vary by the location of your payment account.

How to Calculate Profit With Free Shipping

Free Shipping Profit = Item Revenue − All Product, Shipping, Packaging, Etsy, and Other Costs

Offering free shipping does not eliminate your shipping expense. You still pay the carrier or shipping provider.

You can recover some or all of this cost by increasing your product price. However, a higher selling price can also increase percentage-based fees.

How Much Should You Increase Your Etsy Price?

Use the free-shipping price recommendation in the results. It calculates the minimum item price, rounded to cents, needed to match the profit from the buyer-paid shipping scenario.

The recommendation accounts for the entered fees and shipping costs. It holds the entered sales tax constant and assumes other expenses do not change.

Profit Margin Formula

Profit Margin (%) = Net Profit ÷ Seller Revenue × 100

Return on Cost Formula

Return on Cost (%) = Net Profit ÷ Total Expenses × 100

Break-Even Price

Your break-even price is the minimum item selling price needed to cover the costs and fees entered into the calculator.

The calculator searches cent-by-cent for a price that produces a nonnegative profit. It also accounts for the selected Offsite Ads fee cap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. Etsy generally includes shipping charged to customers when calculating its transaction fee. Payment processing fees also apply to shipping.

Is free shipping actually free for Etsy sellers?

No. The seller still pays the carrier or shipping provider. Free shipping means the buyer does not pay a separate shipping charge.

How do I calculate Etsy profit after shipping?

Subtract your product cost, shipping cost, packaging, transaction fees, payment processing, listing fees, and other expenses from your seller revenue.

Should I include shipping in my Etsy item price?

You can include some or all of your shipping cost in the item price. Compare buyer-paid and free shipping to understand the effect on your estimated profit.

Does Etsy charge transaction fees on free shipping?

Etsy charges its transaction fee on the amount the customer pays for the item. When you include shipping costs in the item price, that higher price is subject to the transaction fee.

What is the Etsy listing fee?

Etsy’s standard listing fee is $0.20 per listing. Additional fees can apply when extra quantities sell or listings renew. This calculator lets you allocate an editable listing fee per item.

Does this calculator include Offsite Ads?

Yes. You can select no fee, 12%, or 15%. The calculator applies the selected fee to the modeled US order, with a $100 cap.

How do I calculate my free shipping price?

Enter your current product price, shipping charge, and all costs. The free-shipping price recommendation shows the price needed to preserve your current buyer-paid shipping profit.

Can I calculate profit for multiple items?

Yes. Enter the quantity sold and product cost per item. Shipping, packaging, and other fixed cost fields represent totals for the order.

Does this calculator include sales tax?

Sales tax is included in the modeled payment processing fee base. It is excluded from seller revenue. The entered amount remains constant when comparing different item prices.
